Mamba Mentality

Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest basketball players who ever lived. His nickname was the “Black Mamba,” after a cunning and highly venomous snake.

Over the years, he developed an approach to basketball – and life – known as the “Mamba Mentality.”

The meaning kind of morphed over the years. Since he was known as a tireless worker, the Mamba Mentality became a symbol of relentlessness. And that was part of it … but not the most important part.

When he tore his Achilles’ tendon and stayed on the floor to knock down his two free throws, finishing the job and never giving up became synonymous with the Mamba Mentality. And that was part of it … but not the most important part.

Embracing high-pressure moments and never backing down from a game-winning shot came to define the Mamba Mentality, too. And again, that was part of it … but not the most important part.

The most important part of the Mamba Mentality can be summarized in four words.

Get.

Better.

Every.

Day.

That’s it.

None of us will ever be as good an athlete or as fierce a competitor as Kobe Bryant was.

But if we can apply the most important aspect of the Mamba Mentality – get better every day – our outcomes will be better and we’ll be better.

Whatever your goals are, chances are it can’t be accomplished today.

But you can do something today that makes you better.

What’s that going to be for you? Reply back … I’d love to hear it.
