Grades

Have you ever noticed that when teachers grade a test, they highlight everything you got wrong … often in red ink … rather than highlighting everything you got right?

From a young age, that’s how we’ve been conditioned to evaluate our own performance.

We’ve been taught to focus on the few things we’ve done wrong instead of the many things we’ve done right.

For example: A client came in on Monday recently and I asked her, “How was your weekend?”

She hesitated for a moment and said, “Terrible. Too much drinking.”

She chose to pick out the one thing she overindulged in rather than celebrate the grilled chicken salad she had for lunch or all the fun she had with her friends.

That’s because we’ve been taught to grade ourselves all wrong.

So when it comes to evaluating progress toward your fitness goals, stop putting red X’s through the mistakes and start putting green check marks by your successes. ✔✔✔

Focus on the positive, and you’ll see an immediate improvement in your outcomes.
