Stop trying to be perfect

Our coaching group recently embarked on a video challenge—record and publish one video daily for 12 days. While we delved into tips for more professional videos, the real success came from a simple principle: taking action.

As coaches, we’re not immune to “paralysis by analysis.” We get stuck, just like our clients. The key to breaking free? Do something. Anything. And don’t aim for perfection.

You’ve heard it before, but it’s worth repeating: Perfection is the enemy of progress. In the words of Michael Jordan, “Just Do It.” Action triggers motivation and momentum—it doesn’t work the other way around.

For almost two weeks, I witnessed fellow coaches stepping out of their comfort zones, producing videos that resonated with and helped many. Without the challenge and mutual accountability, those videos might never have seen the light of day.

Apply this to your health and fitness goals:

– Stop waiting for the perfect time. The best time to start is always right now.

– Quit delaying until you find the perfect workout. A few squats and push-ups will suffice for today.

– Don’t fret over others’ opinions. If my fellow coaches did, they would’ve missed opportunities to inspire and help people.

If you’re feeling stuck or struggling, take one small action each day. The momentum and sense of accomplishment will astound you.
