Beyond weight loss

Before you fall for the trap that exercise is all about weight loss, I have something to share with you.

A study from the University of Virginia and Arizona State University showed a 30 percent reduction in the risk of premature death among people who exercised consistently but didn’t lose any weight. Those in the group with the higher risk of morbidity were considered to be of a “healthier weight,” but didn’t exercise at all.

That’s not to say losing weight isn’t a valid goal. It’s OK to want to look better in your clothes … and out of them 😉

In many cases, losing weight can reduce joint pain and lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

But it’s a mistake to put all your eggs in the weight-loss basket. There’s so much more to exercise than the number on the scale. To name a few:

  • Gaining strength

  • Boosting the immune system

  • Relieving joint pain

  • Improving mood and memory

  • Enhancing bone health

And more …

Let’s shift our focus from fitting into a specific dress size to embracing activities that boost our overall well-being and longevity. It’s about feeling stronger, healthier and more empowered to live life to the fullest.
