​“I Don’t Have Time” (UPDATE)

I’ve written a lot about the biggest objection to starting or sticking with an exercise program.

“I don’t have time.”

I don’t want to rehash all my soap-boxing, but let’s be real: We all have time. It’s just a matter of how we choose to spend it.

But I have a direct, real-life example of how this is true that I’d like to share today.

One of my clients recently booked an early-morning training session on a Monday. Since I keep my training sessions 1×1 she wasn’t able to get into the third session of the day because it was booked. (She missed a session during the week and wanted to do a double that day, which I said was OK since they’d be different workouts.)

When I reviewed the schedule first thing in the morning before jumping online, I noticed that she’d also booked a session after that one.

I was confused.

I reached out to make sure this wasn’t a mistake (so she wasn’t accidentally taking a spot from someone else who might want it).

She assured me that she’d be doing both, despite the hour-long gap in between.

I went about my business, headed online, and started coaching my butt off.

At the end of our first session, I said to the client, “I’m just curious: What are you going to do between workouts?”

“I’m going to get my nails done,” she said.

Now that’s time management. That’s making time for exercise and self care … all at the same time.

I thought I’d share this with you in case it provides some inspiration the next time you think you’ve run out of time to take care of yourself.

Sometimes, you’ve got to roll with the punches and get creative. The next thing you know, you’ve got two workouts under your belt and 10 freshly painted nails.
