A few of the mistakes I’ve made…

I wanted to share some of my biggest health and fitness mistakes for 3 reasons:

If I can help you avoid the same mistakes, that would be great.

It’s fun to see that I’ve been able to create my own Ideal Health and Fitness in spite of all these mistakes.

Hopefully you’ll see that you can screw up a lot and still build the body you want.

So here they are in no particular order:

1) Saying ‘Yes’ to too many things. [There are plenty of good exercise and nutrition plans…but they’re not all the right exercise or nutrition plan.]

2) Overvaluing the things I’m not passionate about in health and fitness. [Things like cardio are very important, but they’re not things you give up equity to address.]

3) Not investing in my health and fitness. [Even when I didn’t have much money I should have done more because I had to play a lot of catch up.]

4) Not following my gut soon enough when it was time to change. [Twice I’ve felt like it was time to make a big health move about a year before I actually pulled the trigger…I should have moved faster.]

5) Not focusing on my Ideal Health and Fitness a little sooner. [I focused more on ‘big’ than ‘Ideal.’]

6) Thinking too small.

7) Allowing myself to get pulled away from what was working from time to time.

8) Occasionally letting my competitive side get the best of me. More specifically, competing with others instead of competing with myself to just get better.

9) Working with too many people who weren’t a good fit. [Now I only do Personal Training or Private Coaching with people who I really enjoy.]

10) Getting pulled away from coaching. [Now virtually everything I offer has a coaching component.]

11) Drifting away from my vision.

12) The times I didn’t have a coach.

13) Not always doing my best work…which was tied to the next one.

14) Spreading myself too thin…not always having a couple top priorities each day…instead having a never ending ‘to do’ list.

15) Along those same lines, having to many health and fitness goals…and as many as a dozen at a time. It’s just to many to be great at any of them.

16) Going through periods where I didn’t spend enough time with the people I care about most.

17) Acting, at times, like health and fitness was more complicated than Nutrition > Exercise > Recovery…and doing those 3 profitably while playing my best role. It’s not…and acting differently caused stress and was a disservice to clients.

And Finally…

Settling for things being ok. I started my health and fitness journey to have the health, fitness and lifestyle I wanted…that’s why I started in the first place..

So I could be more ‘in control’ of that.

But from time to time I settled for things doing ‘ok’ in health and fitness [by the standards of what I want] because I had an awesome family, earned a nice income and had accomplished more than I originally thought I could when I went into business in the first place.

Now I know better.

You can build your Ideal Health and Fitness, but It’s not going to happen without getting clear about what it is and settling for nothing less than getting there.

Hopefully these mistakes of mine will help you avoid some of your own.
