Stories

It’s funny how we sometimes tell ourselves stories that fit a certain narrative or belief.

Back-to-school time is one of the most common times when our brain tricks us into believing something that isn’t true.

How do I know this? Because every year — when summer’s over and the kids are heading back to school — these are the two most common “stories” I hear from people when it comes to fitness and exercise:

Story No. 1: “With the kids going back to school, my schedule is going to be too crazy to work out consistently.”

Story No. 2: “Finally, the kids are going back to school and I’ll have time to work out consistently again!”

See what I mean?

How could both of these be true?

They can’t.

It’s really true that sometimes we believe what we want to believe.

So if you find that you’re telling yourself a story about how it’s going to be too hard to exercise with the kids back in school, pump the brakes. Take a moment to trace the origin of that story.

It always starts with a belief.

If you believe that your fall schedule is going to be too hectic to take care of yourself and prioritize your health, then it’s going to be very easy for your brain to trick you into believing that’s true.

If that’s you, the best thing you can do is dig down to the source of that story and change the belief behind it.

And in order to do that, you need to make a new decision.

So now that summer is essentially over and it’s time for back-to-school and back to a more typical work schedule, what story are you telling yourself about what that means for your health and fitness?

If you don’t like the story you’re hearing in your head, change the belief by making a new decision.

What are you going to decide?
