People come to me wanting to transform their bodies and health, and their view of what’s required to succeed is often pretty far from reality.
“I need to stop eating carbs,” they say.
Or, “I need to workout six days a week.”
Or, “No more pizza.”
Any of these things wouldn’t hurt, necessarily. But there are two problems.
1) They’re all unrealistic.
2) Any of these actions, taken in isolation, won’t really have much effect on body composition or health.
Our bodies are complex, but one thing they’re very good at is keeping score of everything we do — and don’t do — when it comes to having the body and health we want. The score can be expressed in a lot of ways … weight, body fat, cardiovascular health, body chemistry, emotional health, relationships … the list goes on.
So at a time of year when most people are thinking about improving their bodies and health for the summer, I want to share with you the No. 1 requirement for transforming both.
Clarity.
In order to change, you MUST get CLEAR on where you are today and where you want to go.
This could include a physical with bloodwork, to determine whether your body is on the path to a long, healthy, happy life, or whether something needs to change. It could include having a fitness professional record your weight and body fat and take you through a basic movement and fitness assessment.
If you don’t know where you are today, it’s pretty difficult — if not impossible — to set proper goals and achieve them. It’s like putting a destination in your GPS, starting your car, and trying to drive there with a blindfold on.
(Don’t try this at home …)
So if you’re looking to transform your body and health during the second half of 2021, the very first thing you need is CLARITY.
Where are you today and where do you want to go? Reply and let me know.
